The tyrosine kinase receptor EphB4 is frequently overexpressed in ovarian and other solid tumors and is involved in interactions between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment, contributing to metastasis. Trans-interaction between EphB4 and its membrane-bound ligand ephrin B2 (EFNB2) mediates bi-directional signaling: forward EFNB2-to-EphB4 signaling suppresses tumor cell proliferation, while reverse EphB4-to-EFNB2 signaling stimulates the invasive and angiogenic properties of endothelial cells. Currently, no small molecule–based, dual-function, EphB4-binding peptides are available. Here, we report our discovery of a bi-directional ephrin agonist peptide, BIDEN-AP which, when selectively internalized via receptor-mediated endocytosis, suppressed invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of ovarian cancer cells. BIDEN-AP also inhibited endothelial migration and tube formation. In vivo, BIDEN-AP and its nanoconjugate CCPM-BIDEN-AP significantly reduced growth of orthotopic ovarian tumors, with CCPM-BIDEN-AP displaying greater antitumor potency than BIDEN-AP. Both BIDEN-AP and CCPM-BIDEN-AP compromised angiogenesis by downregulating epithelial-mesenchymal transition and angiogenic pathways. Thus, we report a novel EphB4-based therapeutic approach against ovarian cancer.

Hydrodistillation, solvent, enzymolysis and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) methods were used to extract the essential oil of Osmanthus fragrans Lour.. The components of the essential oil were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The yields of essential oil extracted by theose four different methods from O. fragrans Lour were were 0.14%, 0.89%, 0.94%, 1.11% respectively, based on the dry weight. Trans-linalool oxide, cis-linalool oxide, beta-ionone, 9-Tricosene, hexadecanoic acid, 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid and 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid, ethyl ester were the primary components of O. fragrans essential oil. The chemical analysis revealed that the percentage of those primary components of essential oil extracted by different methods were widely different. The results indicated that supercritical fluid extraction method with suitable extract conditions was more selective than the other methods. SFE is the best method for extracting the essential oil of O. fragrans which was solvent free and available in high purity at relatively low cost in the extraction of essential oil.

In this work, an ACP was prepared and applied in the packaging of the RFID tag inlays through flip-chip bonding process. The shear strength, the radio frequency performances (Resonance Frequency and Scattering parameters--S11) before and after the aging tests (high humidity and temperature test, 85 degrees C, RH 85%) and the Maximum Read Distance of the prepared RFID tag inlays were used to evaluate their reliabilities. And the results were compared with those of RFID tag inlays packaged with a commercial ACP under the same bonding conditions. It was found that the radio frequency performance of the High Frequency RFID tag inlays packaged with the ACP prepared here and the commercial ACP, almost were identical and remained unchanged after the aging test. And the shear strengths of them both increased after the aging test. It was revealed that the ACP prepared here has the same performance of the commercial product. The prepared ACP maybe performed better than the commercial product from the relationships between the maximum read distances of the UtraHigh Frequency RFID tag inlays and the aging hours. It can be concluded that the preapared ACP can be applied in the RFID tag inlays assembling industry. It is another choice for the RFID tag manufactures. And this test system can also be used to evaluate the reliability of the RFID tag inlays.

Regression models between the chlorophyll a and other nutrient factors were established elementarily for the characteristic that the Three Gorges Reservoir is a channel reservoir.The nutritional quality of water body was assessed using correlation weighted comprehensive nutritional index.The result was compared with that of assessment based on the nutrient status index of lakes in order to make it closer to the actual environment and embody the feasibility of this method to assess nutrient status in the channel reservoir.

SaPIN2a, the proteinase inhibitor of nightshade (Solanum americanum), has been proposed to regulate proteolysis in phloem development. In this study, we expressed and characterized recombinant SaPIN2a in Escherichia coli. Purified recombinant SaPIN2a (rSaPIN2a) had a strong inhibitory effect on serine proteinase chymotrypsin (IC50 36.1 nmol/L), but its inhibitory activities toward trypsin (IC50 398.6 nmol/L) and especially toward subtilisin (IC50 5004 nmol/L) were low. It did not inhibit cysteine proteinase papain and aspartic proteinase cathepsin D. rSaPIN2a was a competitive inhibitor of trypsin, and a noncompetitive inhibitor of chymotrypsin and subtilisin.

The contents of three main functional components including amino acids, microelements and polysaccharides were determined in submerged-fermentation mycelium and compared with data of fruit body in Grifola frondosa. The results showed that the contents of three main functional components in mycelium were higher than or as same as the fruit body. This indicated that submerged-fermentation mycelium was not only better in output and period than traditional culture method, but also better in nutrient components than fruit body. So the process of submerged-fermentation has very bright future in mycelium production of Grifola frondosa.

In this paper, the influence of different strains and mediums on the yield of submerged-fermentation mycelium of Grifola frondosa was studied. Five strains of Grifola frondosa, including Gr1, Gr2, Gr3, Gr4 and Gr5, were submerged-fermentation cultured and the growing situation of mycelium was measured and analyzed. The results showed that the growth of Gr1 and Gr5 were better than other 3 strains and corn powder medium was more useful to the growth of Grifola frondosa than PDA medium and basic medium.

The thiol-functionalized eggshell membrane (TF-ESM) was prepared by esterification between thioglycolic acid (CH2SHCOOH) and oxygen-containing functional groups on eggshell membrane (ESM). A promising potential biosorbent, TF-ESM, was used for the removal of toxic mercury in wastewater. Aqueous of mercury ions removing properties by TF-ESM were studied through batch experiments. The results indicated that the modified ESM has greatly enhanced the adsorption capacity for Hg2+, the maximum capacity was increased more than 3-fold in comparison with the unmodified ESM, from 19.4 mg g-1 to 71.9 mg g-1. The optimum of pH value for Hg adsorption was in the range of 2-8, which the removing rate over 96%. The results obtained show that the novel thiol-functionalized eggshell membrane performed well the removal and recovery of mercury from low concentration wastewaters.
