The conceptual framework was developed by X.C. and Y.D., while the methodology was a collaborative effort between X.C. and Y.D.; Q.X. and Y.D. handled the software aspects. Z.W. was responsible for validation, and Z.W., Q.X. and Y.D. conducted the formal analysis. The investigation was carried out by X.C., who was also supported by X.C., S.Z. and S.C. in providing resources. Cyclocarya paliurus (Batalin) Iljinskaja is a rare, endemic tree species in China. The leaves of C. paliurus contain a high concentration of biologically active compounds, and they are often used to make herbal tea. Exogenous selenium (Se) enrichment can promote the levels of active ingredients in C. paliurus.
