Understanding the structure-function relationships is critical for the design of collagen-based hemostatic materials. Chemical modification enables researchers to manipulate protein structures, which can significantly alter surface properties (such as hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity) as well as functional characteristics. In this study, the hydrophilicity of collagen was regulated via succinylation and acrylylation, and the impact of collagen hydrophilicity on its hemostatic performance was explored.
