For a long time, Han opera artists regarded female artists' debut as a taboo. Since late Qing Dynasty, women's social status had been raised. Some privately-trained female artists were trying to get onto the stage of Han drama and were boycotted by male actors who occupy a dominant position in the theater of Han opera and were trying to maintain the current pattern.
