It has been shown that a whistle, like an organ pipe, consists essentially of two components, (1) a jet‐edge (JE) system and (2) a resonator, or cavity. Several whistles, with different rectangular cross‐section dimensions, have been constructed. The JE system of each whistle has been duplicated separately so that the operation of each whistle could be compared with the operation of the corresponding independent JE system.
