A simple non-irritating, large-lumen tube suitable for prolonged feeding purposes is described and illustrated. The mercury weighted segment allows the tube to be passed without difficulty into the stomach or upper small bowel and prevents obstruction of the lumen due to twisting. The tube has been used successfully for prolonged periods in the supplementary feeding of malnourished patients. It has also been used to by-pass a poorly functioning stomach following vagotomy.
