The synthesis of low-cost and high-efficiency multicolour emitting graphene quantum dots (GQDs) is of utmost importance for their prospective applications. Lignin, a renewable biomass, contains aromatic compounds that are well-suited for the preparation of polycyclic aromatic GQDs.
