The RNA arbitrarily primed PCR (RAP-PCR) approach was used to identify those genes that are differentially expressed in response to changing salinity in Halobacterium NRC-1. 81 primers were used to scan two different RNA pools derived from cultures of 17% and 30% NaC1 concentrations. On average, each RT-PCR reaction yielded more than ten bands on the agrose gel.
