Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a debilitating, chronic mental disorder with an elusive etiology that significantly impacts the life expectancy of affected individuals. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a condition characterized by a combination of factors that increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. MetS is more prevalent in individuals with SCZ and is a major factor that contributes to their reduced lifespan.
