The images of rice obtained through the scanner are stored in the computer with BMP format. These color images are transformed into grayscale images which are enhanced through improved histogram equalization algorithm using computer image processing techniques. According to the histogram to find the optimal threshold, the gray images are transformed into binary images, and then rice outline is extracted with the eight-neighborhood analysis.
