Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) are the final products of the non-enzymatic interaction between reducing sugars and amino groups in proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. In numerous diseases, such as diabetes, neuropathy, atherosclerosis, aging, nephropathy, retinopathy, and chronic renal illness, accumulation of AGEs has been proposed as a pathogenic mechanism of inflammation, oxidative stress, and structural tissue damage leading to chronic vascular issues.
