To determine the closest type strain genome of Comamonas sp. CHJ601, whole genome-based phylogeny of its genome was performed with the Type (Strain) Genome Server (TYGS) (Meier-Kolthoff and Göker, 2019), a free bioinformatics platform available at https://tygs.dsmz.de/. Comamonas sp. CHJ601 genome was compared with all type strains’ genomes of the family Comamonadaceae in the TYGS database. The resulting inter-genomic distances infer a balanced minimum evolutionary tree with branch support by FASTME 2.1.6.1, which includes SPR post-processing (Lefort et al., 2015).The authors declare the following financial interests/personal relationships which may be considered as potential competing interests: Hong-Jun Chao reports financial support was provided by National Natural Science Foundation of China.It was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (grant numbers 31770119 and 32070098). The compound m-cresol (meta-cresol) is an important representative of alkylphenol pollutants with high toxicity and potential carcinogenicity. The genes and enzymes associated with the m-cresol pathway have not yet been well elucidated. In this study, Comamonas thiooxydans CHJ601 was isolated from industrial wastewater and cultured utilizing m-cresol as the sole source of carbon and energy. m-Cresol catabolism begins with the oxidation of its methyl group in strain CHJ601.
