A fungus, Monoblepharis polymorpha cornu AGED-1 which can produce higher polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), was obtained by screening 63 strains from different soil and water. The characteristics and appropriate carbon source for the fungus were investigated. The results show that the optimal carbon source was the compound mixed glucose with sucrose.
