摘要：
Barcelona and Du Chilly fibert nuts have been analyzed for their principal constituents. The characteristics of the oils obtained by solvent extraction and by cold expression have been determined and their fatty acid composition has been ascertained. Most of the chemical and physical characteristics of the oils as determined in this laboratory agree well with values previously reported by other investigators on European varieties. However, our study of the oil components shows a considerable difference in fatty acid composition.

A theory is presented for the design of laminations to be used in the construction of transducers having a plane piston‐like radiating face. Data is given to show how well the theory predicts the operating characteristics of these transducers.

摘要：
Methods are developed for determining sample sizes required to estimate means of normal populations with given precision, or to give significance when means differ by a specified amount. The methods assume that an estimate of the variance has been obtained from a previous or preliminary experiment. A simple device is suggested for using a priori information about the variance when a formal estimate is not available.

摘要：
The Raman spectrum of n‐butane has been investigated over the temperature range 147°K to 305°K. The results clearly show the presence of two rotational isomers in the liquid. These are the planar, trans‐form (symmetry C2h) and probably the gauche form obtained by a rotation of 120° about the central C–C bond (symmetry C2). The photoelectric spectrograph was used for quantitative intensity measurements on the line pair at 432 cm−1 and 325 cm−1 over the temperature range studied. These lines belong to the two rotational isomers and the results were used to give a value of 770±90 cal. mole−1 for the energy difference, —ΔH, between the two forms of n‐butane in the liquid phase. This result is shown to be in good agreement with a value assumed by Pitzer in his treatment of long chain paraffins. A detailed assignment has been made of the vibrational spectrum of the trans‐rotational isomer.

摘要：
A description of a radial vibrator for use in underwater sound signalling. A technique is presented for providing a plastic cast to protect the toroidal windings which serves to improve rather than decrease the potential efficiency. Data is presented to show the operating characteristics of these sound sources.

摘要：
Investigations into the synoptic situations preceding explosions in coal mines during the past 12 years show the feasibility of forecasting periods of dangerous accumulation of combustible gas mixtures in coal mines. Several physical, as well as some psychological, aspects are discussed.
