In this work, a novel method was developed for the determination of the volatile elements Cd, Pb, and Zn in high purity tantalum pentaoxide (Ta2O5) by in situ matrix removal and electrothermal vaporization inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ETV-ICP-MS). A polytetrafluoroethylene slurry (PTFE) was used as a chemical modifier in ETV for converting both the matrix (Ta) and the volatile elements into their fluorides. This strategy greatly enhanced the difference in the volatility between the analytes and the matrix. As a result, the Ta matrix was removed in situ as a more volatile TaF5 without signal loss of the analytes due to the formation of their fluorides with good thermal stability. Under the optimum operating conditions, the detection limits (DLs) for Cd, Pb, and Zn were 1.4, 3.2, and 6.8 ng g(-1) with relative standard deviations (RSDs) less than 6.0%, respectively. This method was applied to the determination of the trace volatile elements Cd, Pb, and Zn in high purity Ta2O5, and the results were in good agreement with those obtained by conventional pneumatic nebulization (PN) ICP-MS after the separation of the matrix with a solvent extraction procedure.

Using immersion tests, viscosity measurements, FTIR and SEM, as well as biodegradation tests, biodegradable tung oil coatings were investigated. Results showed that the curing times for different formulae decreased as the amount of catalyst increased. During the curing process, there was an initial induction period where the viscosity remained more or less the same, and after a certain time, a sharp increase in viscosity was observed. The steady viscosity increased with time, revealing a continuous autoxidation process. Microorganisms in the soil attacked the surfaces of the tung oil films either uniformly on the whole plate or at specific weak points, leading to decreased volume, blurring of the small humps as well as holes. The weak point on the crosslinked chain was located at the carbonyl-containing groups, where chemical biodegradation occurred more easily and faster. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The genetically modified (GM) crops have been extensively reported in recent years, numerous transgenic products without being labeled as transgenic product have thrown into the market. In this paper, the genomic DNA of corn products was extracted and detected by using modified CTAB and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods respectively. Another, corn samples were detected to explore whether or not transgenic ingredients by using specific endogenous gene IVR of the corn as internal parameter, and Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) 35S promoter and nopaline synthase (NOS) terminator as target genes. The experimental results indicate that some corn samples contain transgenic ingredients, and its products without being marked as transgenic product in market.

Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as dispersant was employed to assist the hydrothermal synthesis of MoS2. The results show that the interlayer distance of the as-obtained MoS2 is smaller compared with the original MoS2 without PVP-assistance using XRD, SEM and TEM techniques for characterization. Investigations of the electrochemical performances of MoS2 with different interlayer distance as anode material for LIBs demonstrate that the specific capacity and the cycling performance of lithium storage of MoS2 is significantly dependent on the interlayer distance of MoS2, furthermore causing the different mechanism of lithium storage. This might be attributed to the varied internal resistance and Li-ion diffusion in layered MoS2 due to the different interlayer distance, which is validated from electrochemical impedance spectroscope of MoS2 electrode.

An efficient PdCl2-Dppc+-PF6--[bmim][PF6] catalytic system has been developed for the Heck coupling reaction of various aryl iodides with olefins. The catalytic system allows the coupling reaction to proceed smoothly in excellent yields and can be recycled 5 times with minimal loss of activity.
