Simultaneous isolation of cellulose and lignin from wheat straw and catalytic conversion to valuable chemical products

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Convertible cellulose and lignin were simultaneously isolated from wheat straw using a two-stage process via simply varying temperature and H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub> concentration. At the first-stage, cellulose was obtained by pretreating wheat straw at lower temperature and acid concentration using an organosolv process. The purity, yield and recovery rate of cellulose reached 86.8 wt%, 55.2 and 92.8% at 150°C with 1 wt% H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>. At the second stage, the residual liquid was further treated at higher temperature and acid concentration, giving 17.4% lignin yield with 86.6% recovery rate and 93.2 wt% purity at 180°C with 1.5 wt% H<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>SO<jats:sub>4</jats:sub>. The conversion of the as-isolated cellulose and lignin into chemicals was further investigated. The total yield of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and glucose derived from wheat straw cellulose reached 82.5%, and 18.3% yield of monophenolic compounds from lignin were obtained, respectively. These results indicated that the two-stage process was effective for obtaining high-quality cellulose and lignin from wheat straw. Both of them displayed excellent convertible property.</jats:p>

摘要:
In this work, three catalysts (Ni-based catalyst, Ni/Fe-based catalyst, and Ni/Ce-based catalyst) were developed for catalytic cracking of toluene as a model compound of tar in a fixed bed reactor. The characteristic of catalysts were determined by XRD, EDX, and BET. Meanwhile, the effects of calcination temperature and reaction temperature on syngas yield and toluene conversion rate were also studied. The results showed that the BET surface area was decreased with the rise of calcination temperature, while the content of hydrogen and syngas yield were decreased with the rise of calcination temperature. The three catalysts showed a promising application in catalytic reforming of toluene for hydrogen production. The catalytic performance of three catalysts was ordered as Ni/Ce > Ni/Fe > Ni > thermal cracking. The maximum syngas yield (1.44 L/g toluene) and toluene conversion rate (96.4%) were obtained for Ni/Ce-based catalyst, which indicated the effectiveness of the Ni/Ce-based catalyst.

摘要:
In this study, impact of a rice straw-derived biochar on the anaerobic digestion of piggery wastewater was investigated under different ammonium "stress levels". The results showed that the biogas yield was decreased from 1293.27mL to 402.31 mL and the COD removal rate was decreased from 70.68% to 38.13% with the NH4+-N concentration increasing from 900mg/L to 3500 mg/L. At no ammonium "stress level", the COD removal rate was increased from 70.68% to 83.75%, and biogas yield was increased from 1293.27mL to 2306mL with the increase of biochar dosage from 0g to 15g. While with the addition of biochar increasing from 0g to 15g, the COD removal rate was increased from 38.13% to 70.38% and the biogas yield was increased from 382 mL to 1878 mL at high ammonium "stress level". It indicated that the presence of biochar not only could promote biogas yield but also could release the ammonium inhibition. (c) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Lignin was isolated from wheat straw via organosolv process and further transferred to monophenolic compounds via oxidative conversion. Wheat straw lignin (WSL) with purity at 91.4 wt% was acquired in the presence of heterogeneous and recyclable catalyst of Amberlyst‐45. WSL was characterized by infrared spectrometer (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) including <jats:sup>1</jats:sup>H NMR and <jats:sup>13</jats:sup>C NMR spectra. The results showed that WSL possesses typical syringyl (S), guaiacyl (G), and <jats:italic>p</jats:italic>‐hydroxyphenyl (H) units, and it is mainly composed of S and G units. The product distribution was dependent on the composition of WSL. Derivatives from S and G units were found to be the main products. The oxidative conversion of WSL was performed by varying oxidant and catalyst. Both the formation of monophenolic compounds and aromatic aldehydes were enhanced by combining oxidants and catalysts. The composite catalyst composed of NaOH/NaAlO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> was effective for the oxidation of WSL in the presence of nitrobenzene and atmospheric pressure air. The total yield of monophenolic compounds reached up 18.1%, and yields at 6.3 and 5.7% for syringaldehyde and vanillin were achieved, respectively.</jats:p>

Fabrication of 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts have attracted more attentions due to their inherent merits involving the large contact interface, short charge migration distance and plentiful active sites, which are beneficial for the enhancement of photocatalytic activity. Herein, a series of 2D/2D MoS2/CdS type-I heterojunctions were prepared by incorporation the exfoliating of bulk CdS and MoS2 with post-sintering procedure. Multiple characteristic techniques were employed to corroborate the formation of heterojunctions. By optimizing the 2D MoS2 amounts in the heterojunction, the 7 wt.% 2D/2D MoS2/CdS heterojunction displayed the maximal photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 18.43 mmol h−1 g−1 under visible light irradiation in the presence of lactic acid as the sacrificial reagent, which was 6 times higher than that of pristine 2D CdS. Based on the photoelectrochemical and photoluminescence spectra tests, it could be deduced that the charge separation and transfer of 2D/2D MoS2/CdS heterojunction was tremendously improved, and the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs was effectively impeded. Moreover, the 2D MoS2 was used as a cocatalyst to provide the abundant active sites and lower the overpotential for H2 generation reaction. The current work would offer an insight to fabricate the 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts for splitting H2O into H2. © 2020

In this paper, rice husk (RH) was used as raw material to prepare white carbon black, and the key technological parameters of preparing white carbon black from RH were studied through single-factor test, orthogonal experiment, and response surface analysis. Meanwhile, the characteristic of white carbon black was also analyzed. Through orthogonal experiment analysis, it was confirmed that the order of factors affecting the purity of white carbon black was calcination temperature>alkali treatment time>final pH>surfactant. Based on the response surface optimization analysis, the optimum parameters for preparation of white carbon black were as follows: calcination temperature 610°C, alkali treatment time of 2.3hr, final pH of 10, CTMAB was used as the surfactant. Under this condition, the purity of silica prepared could be reached to 99.39%, and the particle size was uniform, spherical, and well dispersed, which satisfied the requirements of GB/T 34698-2017 standard. © 2019 The Authors. 摘要:
半导体光催化技术因其能够完全矿化和降解废水以及废气中的各种有机和无机污染物而受到越来越多研究者关注.尽管TiO2作为光催化剂显示了良好的应用前景,但其只对紫外光响应,该部分能量大约仅占太阳光谱的5%,从而限制了其实际应用.因此,开发新型可见光响应光催化剂成为光催化领域的研究焦点之一.石墨相氮化碳(g-C3N4)作为一种光催化材料,由于具有良好的热和化学稳定性以及可见光响应而备受关注.然而,单纯的g-C3N4由于光生电荷载流子易复合,光催化效果并不理想.为进一步提高g-C3N4的光催化活性,构建g-C3N4基异质结复合光催化材料被认为是增强g-C3N4光生电子-空穴分离效率的有效方法. CdMoO4作为一种光催化材料,与g-C3N4匹配的能带有利于光生电子-空穴的分离,从而提高g-C3N4的光催化活性.本文通过便利的原位沉淀-煅烧过程,制备了新颖的Cd MoO4/g-C3N4异质复合光催化材料.复合材料的晶相构成、形貌、表面化学组分和光学特性等通过相应的分析测试手段进行表征.光催化活性通过可见光下催化降解罗丹明B水溶液来评价.结果显示,将CdMoO4沉积在g-C3N4表面形成复合材料可明显提高光催化活性,且当CdMoO4含量为4.8wt%时达到最佳的光催化活性.这种显著增强的光催化活性可能是由于Cd MoO4/g-C3N4复合物能够有效地传输和分离光生电荷载流子,从而抑制了光生电子-空穴的复合.电化学阻抗、瞬态光电流和稳定荧光光谱测试结果证实,通过Cd MoO4与g-C3N4复合可有效增强电荷分离效率.此外,活性物捕获实验表明,在光催化过程中空穴(h+)和超氧自由基(?O2-)是主要活性物种.根据莫托-肖特基实验并结合紫外-可见漫反射吸收光谱,得到了单纯g-C3N4和CdMoO4的能带结构,提出了形成的II型异质结有助于增强光催化活性的机理.

摘要:
To further improve the charge separation and photocatalytic activities of g-C3N4 and CdMoO4 under visible light irradiation, CdMoO4/g-C3N4 composites were rationally synthesized by a facile precipitation-calcination procedure. The crystal phases, morphologies, chemical compositions, textural structures, and optical properties of the as-prepared composites were characterized by the corresponding analytical techniques. The photocatalytic activities toward degradation of rhodamine B solution were evaluated under visible light irradiation. The results revealed that integrating CdMoO4 with g-C3N4 could remarkably improve the charge separation and photocatalytic activity, compared with those of pristine g-C3N4 and CdMoO4. This would be because the CdMoO4/g-C3N4 composites could facilitate the transfer and separation of the photoexcited electron-hole pairs, which was confirmed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, transient photocurrent responses, and photoluminescence measurements. Moreover, active species trapping experiments demonstrated that holes (h+) and superoxide radicals (·O2−) were the main active species during the photocatalytic reaction. A possible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed on the basis of the energy band structures determined by Mott-Schottky tests. Exploiting the low-cost, abundant and noble-metal-free cocatalysts was still a research hotspot in the photocatalysis field. Herein, few-layer WS2 decorating ZnIn2S4 heterojunctions were successfully fabricated by a two-step procedure including exfoliating bulk WS2 and post-sintering treatment. The multiple characterization techniques were employed to investigate the properties of as-prepared WS2/ZnIn2S4 heterojunctions. The photocatalytic activities were evaluated by H2 evolution performances, and the results revealed that the activities would be significantly promoted by integrating a little amount of WS2 with ZnIn2S4. Moreover, the optimal loading amount of WS2 was about 3 wt% in the heterojunctions, corresponding to the H2 evolution rate of 2.55 mmol g−1h−1 and the apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 3.2% at 420 nm monochromatic light. Based on the photoelectrochemical and photoluminescence (PL) spectra tests, the effective charge separation and transfer in the WS2/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction were convincingly corroborated, which was beneficial for the improvement of photocatalytic activity. Furthermore, the few-layer WS2 as cocatalysts could also offer the sufficient active sites to facilitate the H2 evolution. The present work would provide some insights for the development of non-noble-metal cocatalysts in the photocatalysis region. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.

A catalyst loaded Ni-Fe using powder active carbon (PAC) and gamma-Al2O3 as the support was prepared for hydrogen-rich syngas production from rape straw pyrolysis in a two-stage fixed reactor. EDX (Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy), SEM (Scanning electron microscope) and N-2 isothermal adsorption desorption were used to characterize the catalysts. The results showed that the support of PAC-gamma Al2O3 was uniform with large specific surface area. The metals loaded on the support were well dispersed. The performance of Ni-Fe/PAC-gamma Al2O3 catalysts compared with single support catalyst NiO-Fe2O3/gamma Al2O3 (NFA) and NiO-Fe2O3/PAC (NFP) was studied. The results showed that the Ni-Fe/PAC-gamma Al2O3 catalysts showed a good catalytic activity which obviously enhanced the H-2 gas yield to 54.23 g/kg Rape straw and reduced the tar yield to 4.06 g/kg. Meanwhile, Ni-Fe/PAC-gamma Al2O3 catalysts had a stronger ability to prevent the deactivation to keep a longtime stability than the single carrier catalyst. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. A modified drinking-water treatment sludge (MDWTS) by pyrolysis was used as the adsorbent for the removal of phosphorus. The influence of pyrolysis temperature, dosage of adsorbent, contact time and pH on the P adsorption capacity were tested. Meanwhile the equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption process by DWTS and MDWTS were also studied. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of DWTS was greatly improved after pyrolyzed. The increase of pyrolysis temperature was benefit for the phosphorus adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity (25.32 mg/g) of MDWTS was appeared at 800°C. The adsorption capacity of DWTS and MDWTS was strongly dependent on solution pH especially at low pH. The maximum phosphorus adsorption capacity were achieved at pH 5. As the dosage of DWTS and MDWTS increased from 0.5 to 3 g/100 ml, P adsorption capacity decreased from 7.47 mg/g to 1.74 mg/g and 22.45 mg/g to 3.26 mg/g respectively. High-adsorbent dosage could effectively reduce the unsaturation of the ion-exchange sites of DWTS and MDWTS which caused comparatively lesser ion exchange. The adsorption isotherms of P removal by DWTS and MDWTS were well described by Freundlich models, suggesting the adsorption of phosphorus was a heterogeneous surface adsorption process. Two-dimensional (2D) materials have received tremendous attention in photocatalysis owing to their superior physicochemical properties including high specific surface areas, efficient interfacial charge separation and abundant surface active sites. Herein, 2D/2D Ni2P/CdS heterojunctions with Ni2P nanosheets (NSs) loaded on ultrathin CdS NSs were fabricated by combining liquid exfoliation of bulk CdS with a post-annealing procedure. The crystal phases, morphologies, microstructures, optical properties and specific surface areas of the as-prepared photocatalysts were thoroughly investigated by multiple detection techniques. The results of photocatalytic H2 evolution performance under visible light revealed that the optimal 2D/2D Ni2P/CdS heterojunction showed a significantly enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 17.95 mmol g-1 h-1 using lactic acid as a sacrificial reagent, which was approximately 6 times higher than that of bare exfoliated CdS NSs, corresponding to the apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 4.2% under 420 nm monochromatic light. In addition, based on the analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), photocurrent response, steady photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) spectroscopy, the enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution activity was attributed to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charge carriers and generation of sufficient active sites. This work provided valid evidence that the use of 2D/2D heterojunction photocatalysts would be a promising technique in water splitting for H2 generation. © 2019 The Royal Society of Chemistry.

Abstract: There is a significant interest in valorization of biomass and its derivatives into chemicals. In this work, glucose derived from biomass was converted into 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural (HMF). Phosphotungstic acid (PHA) supported on magnetic nanoparticles Fe3O4 coated by SiO2 (Fe3O4@SiO2/PHA) was prepared and employed in the synthesis of HMF from glucose. The supported catalyst of Fe3O4@SiO2/PHA was characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR) and powder X-ray diffraction. The results indicated that the supported catalyst exhibited similar catalytic activity to that of homogeneous PHA. The effects of such reaction variables as the amount of PHA, reaction solvent, temperature and time were studied in detail. The yield of HMF at 30.4% was observed at 130 °C for 3 h in N,N-dimethylformamide under nitrogen atmosphere. The supported catalyst was recovered by an external magnet after the reaction and reused in the next run without further pretreatment. No significant change in activity was observed at the initial four cycles, in which the yield of HMF changed in a small range from 28.7 to 30.8%. 在不同的供氧条件下,开展了利用Fe~0/Fe~(2+)复合体系去除硫酸根的实验研究,对反应产物进行了 X射线衍射(XRD)、扫描电子显微镜(SEM)及X射线光电子能谱分析(XPS)表征,并剖析了其作用机理。结果表明:供氧条件对硫酸根的去除效果由好到差的顺序依次为:限制供氧>好氧>厌氧,硫酸根的去除率分别为(93.4±1.3)%、(67.1±3.2)%和(18.8±2.8)%。经表征确定限制供氧条件下产生的墨绿色絮体为硫酸盐绿锈,而好氧条件下的最终产物主要为纤铁矿。限制供氧条件下Fe~0/Fe~(2+)复合体系制备硫酸盐绿锈去除硫酸根实质是传统氧化法和共沉淀法制备硫酸盐绿锈的结合,克服了传统方法的缺点,具有操作简便,成本低廉的特点。

To further improve the light response range and photocatalytic activity of Bi2SiO5, the Bi2SiO5/BiOBr type-II heterojunction photocatalysts were constructed by in-situ partial ion exchange strategy using Bi2SiO5 as precursor. The crystal phases, morphologies, chemical compositions, optical properties and textural structures of as-synthesized Bi2SiO5/BiOBr photocatalysts were characterized by the corresponding analytical techniques. The photocatalytic activities of samples were evaluated by degrading Rhodamine B (RhB) solution under visible light irradiation. The results showed that the Bi2SiO5/BiOBr heterojunction photocatalysts significantly improved the photocatalytic performances, which would be ascribed to the extended light response, enhanced adsorption capacity, matched energy band structures and intimate interface contact. Construction of Bi2SiO5/BiOBr heterojunction facilitated the separation and transfer of photoexcited charge carriers, which were verified by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), transient photocurrent response and steady photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) measurements. This work would offer a new insight into the design and preparation of Bi2SiO5-based heterojunction photocatalysts for the removal of organic contaminant. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

A series of Cd1-xZnxS solid solutions and samples of amorphous MoS2 decorated on Cd1-xZnxS microspheres were successfully prepared. The crystal phases, morphologies, elemental distribution, chemical compositions, optical properties, and specific surface areas of the as-fabricated samples were investigated by the corresponding measurement techniques. The photocatalytic H2 evolution activities of the MoS2/Cd1-xZnxS composites were explored and compared using lactic acid as a sacrificial reagent. The results manifested that 5 wt% MoS2 loaded on the surface of the Cd0.8Zn0.2S solid solution could attain the highest photocatalytic H2 evolution rate of 12.39 mmol g-1 h-1, corresponding to an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of about 16.5% under 420 nm monochromatic light. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), transient photocurrent response and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy experiments confirmed that MoS2 as a cocatalyst could promote the transfer and separation of photogenerated charge carriers on the Cd0.8Zn0.2S solid solution. In addition, amorphous MoS2 decorated on the Cd0.8Zn0.2S sample showed a much better performance than that of crystalline MoS2. This could be because amorphous MoS2 possessed more abundant active sites than its crystalline counterpart. Based on the energy band positions of Cd0.8Zn0.2S and MoS2, a tentative mechanism for the enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution activity was proposed. © 2019 The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.

Rice straw was employed to prepare microcrystalline cellulose (MCC). First, crude cellulose was isolated from rice straw using organosolv fractionation in the presence of mixed solvent composed of ethanol and H2O. Most hemicellulose and lignin were removed while little silica was not. Second, crude cellulose was bleached in Na2CO3/H2O2 mixed solution to remove residual silica as well as small amount of hemicellulose and lignin. After that, the removal rates of hemicellulose, lignin and silica reached up 91.5, 92.8 and 97.9%, respectively. Cellulose from rice straw was further converted into MCC in the presence of hydrochloric acid aqueous solution, and the cellulose content reached up to 92.4% in MCC. Infrared spectrometer (IR) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used to characterize the structure of rice straw and its derived samples. © 2019 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

Cyclic carbonates were synthesized via the coupling reaction of CO2 with epoxides at ambient pressure. The reaction of atmospheric pressure CO2 with styrene oxide (SO) was selected as the model reaction. The coupling reaction was investigated by varying a simple catalytic system composed of Lewis acid and quaternary ammonium salt, molar ratio of catalyst to substrate, solvent, and temperature. The yield of styrene carbonate (SC) reached 91.5% in the presence of ZnBr2/Bu4NBr at p(CO2)° = 0.1 MPa and 100°C for 4 h. The coupling reactions between CO2 and a series of substrates including aliphatic and aromatic epoxides were also performed efficiently. Yields of cyclic carbonates in the range of 76.4–93.2% were achieved. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry and John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Modifications by impregnation and grafting are commonly used for the preparation of amine-functionalized MCM-41. A comprehensive evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods was performed in this work. MCM-41 was synthesized by the hydrothermal method, setting the amine-loading mass fraction at 40, 50, and 60 wt %. Three amine-modified adsorbents were prepared by impregnating polyethylenimine (PEI), and the three other adsorbents were prepared by grafting 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) onto MCM-41. The as-prepared adsorbents were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and N2 adsorption-desorption techniques. CO2 adsorption capacities were measured, and the experimental data were fitted with adsorption kinetic models. The cyclic stability of the adsorbents prepared by the two kinds of amine-modified methods was compared using the cyclic adsorption-desorption experiments. The characterization results showed that the target adsorbents were prepared successfully. The thermal stability of the adsorbents modified by grafting was better than the thermal stability of the adsorbents modified by the impregnation. Maximum CO2 adsorption capacities of 3.53 mmol g-1 (50% PEI-MCM-41) and 2.41 mmol g-1 (50% APTS-MCM-41) could be reached at 25 °C and 1 atm, which were 4.7 and 3.2 times greater than that of MCM-41. The Avrami model fitted the experimental data well, indicating a variety of interactions between the adsorbents and CO2. CO2 adsorption capacity after 5 adsorption-desorption cycles decreased by 14.22 and 5.19% for the adsorbents prepared by impregnation and grafting, respectively. It was concluded that MCM-41 modified by impregnation and grafting followed the same kinetic model. The absorbents modified by impregnation showed higher CO2 adsorption capacity and amine-loading efficiency, while those prepared by grafting had better thermal and cyclic stabilities. © 2017 American Chemical Society.

The synthesis of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) from cellulose via a two-step process was investigated. To optimize reaction conditions, the separate conversion of cellulose and glucose was first performed in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) via a one-step process using hosphotungstic acid (PHA) as catalyst. The direct conversion of cellulose to HMF was then performed via the two-step process. The first step and the second step were carried out in THF and the mixture solvent composed of THF/DMF, respectively. Cellulose was converted to HMF and glucose in the first step in THF. Both of cellulose and the as-formed glucose were then converted to HMF in the second step. The conversion of cellulose to HMF and glucose were significantly improved by the two-step process, and the total yield of HMF and glucose was elevated from 52.1 to 97.0%. A possible mechanism for the formation of HMF from cellulose via the two-step process was also proposed.
